Lava fountains are gushing eruptions of molten basaltic lava which has a low viscosity. When gas bubbles in the lava expand rapidly lava fountaining can occur. Lava fountains can reach 100m or even 500m. Fountains erupt from vents,craters and fissures. Etna and Kilauea are famous for their lava displays.
